NAMI Basics is the new signature education program for parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses. The NAMI Basics course is taught by trained teachers who are the parent or other caregivers of individuals who developed the symptoms of mental illness prior to the age of 13 years. The course consists of six classes, each lasting for 2 hours.
Family-To-Family is a 12 week series of classes for both families of birth and families of choice, as well as friends and caregivers of persons with brain disorders (mental illnesses). These classes are small and provide an opportunity for learning and bonding with others. The teachers are family members themselves. The course was written by a family member who is also a mental health professional. The course combines self-care, education, and personal empowerment. Each participant ends the class with the tools to become an advocate. Courses are held periodically and our office maintains a waiting list.
